L.A. Riots Song Project | The Change | Singer/Songwriter

Synopsis:

Looking back to how I was afraid of releasing this song for people to hear had me reevaluating what was the reasoning behind not sharing this piece of music on December 4, 2018? Researching and finding inspiration to write a song based on the L.A. Riots and Chicano Movement made me understand why I have built a closer resonance to sharing that songwriting is a tool for expressing the dreams we wish to acquire through lyrics that align with our inner peace and the community we grew up in. Learning about covert and overt racial discrimination in college and becoming aware of how I aligned as a Latino/a citizen made me question the American Dream through my own complex Chicano/a background. With the growing problems ranging from: financial instability, immigration labels, and cultural inequality, I only hope for a world that practices mindfulness to understand the extreme cause and effect through a small action can change history for better or worse. All I can suggest for now is to educate ourselves through cultural acquisition in the areas of cultural competency and diversity. Cross-cultural learning and experience is meant to strengthen us not limit us.

Lyrics:

Intro:

You say/ I’m not/ part of your/ home Necesitas/ terminar/ esta/ irracionalidad Respect/ those/ whom surround/ you Acepta/ la gente/ de costumbres/ diferentes

Their history/ doesn’t/ define/ their character Su color/ no causará/ separación/ en la comunidad Allow/ the human race/ to bring/ change Sea/ el cambio/ y no/ la destrucción

Chorus:

Cause we/ create/ the human/ race And/ our dreams/ fill/ the space

Openness/ will end this senseless/ misery And/ reward us/ with a fruitful/ destiny

Bridge:

My brown skin/ and dark hair Will not cause you/ despair I have/ a heart/ that yearns/ for change And hopes to/ no longer/ be/ estranged

Chorus:

Cause we/ create/ the human/ race And/ our dreams/ fill/ the space

Openness/ will end this senseless/ misery And/ reward us/ with a fruitful/ destiny

Outro:

Imagine/ a world/ with equal/ opportunities/ for all Imagina/ un mundo/ con/ igualdad/ de oportunidades/ para todos

Imagine/ Imagine/ Imagina/ Imagina

I hope you enjoy the song and spread the importance of cultural integration as a source of personal development!
